How we work

The terms, before the terms

How a matter goes, how we charge, and what you can hold us to.

  1. First call or message

Tell us briefly what happened. We check there's no conflict of interest and tell you whether we can help.

  2. First consultation

45 minutes with the lawyer who would run your matter. You leave with your options and what each would cost.

  3. Engagement letter

The fee, the scope and who does what, in writing. Nothing starts until you agree it.

  4. The work

Your lawyer keeps you updated at every step, by phone or email, as you prefer.

  5. Closing letter

A short summary of what was done, what you should keep and anything to watch for.

  1. Fees and billing

We quote a fixed fee wherever we can. Where we can't, we give an estimate with a ceiling and tell you before we reach it. We bill at the stages set out in your engagement letter.

  2. Confidentiality

What you tell us stays with us. Only the people working on your matter see your file.

  3. Your documents

We keep your file for [NUMBER] years after your matter closes, then destroy it securely unless you ask us to keep it.

  4. Complaints

Tell the senior partner first; we answer within [NUMBER] working days. If you're not satisfied, you can take it to [OMBUDSMAN].

Questions about the firm, fees and how we work

Hello. I can tell you what we do, what it costs and how to book a consultation. I can't give legal advice on your situation; a lawyer will.
